NLR Friends of Animals kicks off Membership Drive | Pets
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- North Little Rock Friends of Animals (NLRFOA), a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals, is announcing its membership drive for 2012. NLRFOA is inviting residents of North Little Rock and the surrounding areas to join our efforts. “Our goal is to recruit people from our community who care about animals and believe that the first step in controlling pet population is educating others on the importance of sterilizing their pets. This is an issue that everyone can support. It is about being proactive in preventing an overpopulation of animals that otherwise might end up in shelters or in bad situations.”
Since 1996, NLRFOA has promoted pet sterilization and owner responsibility through fundraisers to fund the adoption/rescue and spay/neuter programs at the North Little Rock Animal Shelter, and other projects to benefit the welfare of animals. Our finest accomplishment in 2010, was purchasing Animal Oxygen Resuscitation Masks for our North Little Rock Fire Trucks so that any animal caught in a house fire in North Little Rock would have a fighting chance to survive smoke inhalation. In 2011, our efforts helped lower income families sterilize 993 pets, which prevented the birth of about 4,500 additional animals.
In addition to continuing our sterilization efforts, we have joined Wishing Well For Paws. They are a rescue group that finds homes for pets on the east coast. We have the pets sterilized, give them their shots, and then WWFP transports them to their new homes. The best part of this is that almost all of the dogs that we transported were large mixed breeds which are the hardest to find homes for. We have also joined CARE for the Paws in Prison Program where we have sent dogs to Tucker Prison. The dogs are assigned to a prisoner, housed in the prisoner’s cell, housebroken, and trained daily for adoption to a “forever” home. Both of these programs have done a wonderful job of finding homes for pets that otherwise might not have found a home.
Although volunteering is not mandatory for our members, we would love for those who feel inclined to join our mission to help animals – to really get involved and work with us. When you volunteer, not only do you make a difference but you also form friendships and experience a job well done. It takes teamwork to plan a big event but we love that the events are fun and we love to watch people and dogs enjoying them.
